The development in advertising is more and more targeted ads. Behavioural targeting in online ads and email marketing, geotargeting in mobile advertising, etc.
I read about a new concept on Trend Hunter this morning, the Magical Glass. It's a thin ultra connectet glass tablet that provides you with information about what ever you look at through the glass. Look at a building and get information about the companies that are located there, look at a bridge and get information about when it was built, look at an insect and get the name, look at a car and get info on the model. You can connect it to encyclopedias, wikipedia and other net based information sources to get the info you need.
Imagine the possibilities this would open in targeted marketing. If the device knows your interests it can give you offers related to what you look at. See a building and get instantly information about some of the companies with in it, a restaurant that has an offer on the top floor or a brothel in the basement (aha, the device cought you surfing for porn ;). If you are reading an article about the latest model from Toyota the device would give the contact info at the nearest dealer and even give you a quote on the car and user reviews from an online source. If Google would develop this thing (they have everything it needs, info, maps, images) you can certain this kind of advertising would be included.
You might even integrate this into glasses. Sounds pretty brilliant. The concept is developed by Mac Funamizu.
